Four Things That Twitter (And Other Social Media Sites) Users Should Do
You are what you Tweet
At the age of social media, the world seems smaller and every place seems to be closer to each other by an inch or two. The internet has brought us closer and it made everything easy in click of a button. The online portal might be very beneficial to all of us but it also put us at risk. There are criminals who know how to take advantage of the modern technology and cyber predators are just lurking on the other side waiting for another prey.
One of the most popular social networking sites is twitter. Indeed, this website had brought us closer to people we look up to like movie stars, athletes, music artist and other stellar personalities. Our timeline give us the privilege to view their thoughts and peak at their personal lives. Through twitter we are also updated with the freshest scoops and news even before it hits the pages of major broadsheets or announce it on live TV newscast.
Truly, twitter has been a very dependable online gateway where we can get news straight from the sources. However, despite its dependability, twitter can actually inch you closer to jeopardy. As a twitter user, I would like my fellow twitter friends around the world to take note of the things that they should consider before posting a tweet. Remember, liberty is good but it takes great responsibility as well. Hence, here are the things that you should not do on twitter and other social networking sites as well.

Pinoys are a force to be reckoned with online. But as the popular saying goes, power puts a great responsibility on the shoulders of those who wield it.
Think Before You Click
Remember, the internet is like a battlefield, you don’t know what will hit you. You don’t know what you will step on. There might be dangerous bombs or landmines buried underneath so you should always be extra cautious. Such vigilance should also be applied while browsing the internet especially the social networking sites. There might be links that contain unwanted contents so you should always think before you click literally.
Think Before You Tweet
Being free is good but that doesn’t mean that you should go all out. Liberty has some limitations as well especially when someone might get affected. Keep in mind that your twitter account is exposed to public scrutiny. As much as possible, be careful with what you say especially on social media sites. If you can’t say it in real life, do not say it on twitter. They say, “You are what you eat”. I say, “you are what you tweet”. So always be responsible in what you post.
Do Not Get Too Personal
As much as possible, avoid getting too personal on twitter and other social networking sites. Again, it is okay to rant you thought and express yourself but always set a boundary. Know when to draw the line. Of course, you don’t know what lies on the other side of the fence. There might be predators that are waiting ensnare you with the words you say so be very careful. Filter what are the things that you should post and what are the things that you should just keep for yourself. Do not ever post images and videos that contain sensitive content.

Yes, thieves come in the middle of the night so better be secured. Just like your home, your accounts should be guarded and it can be possible by setting up a really strong password. Avoid using passwords that are easy to unlock like birthdays and social security number. Do not use the most common passwords like “password” and “qwerty”. As much as possible, create yours in a combination of alphanumeric characters and lower and upper case elements.
