12 Rules To Weight Loss That You Can Apply

Gaining weight is a really serious issue. Trust me, I am also taking that path and it’s sick to know that I have big thighs that kiss whenever I walk. Truly, weight gain is easy and comparable to a piece of heaven on Earth. On the contrary, losing weight is hell. It is not as easy for a person like me. Fat cells cling to me like a leech on it blood feast.

Indeed, it takes time, hard work, perseverance, focus and self control in order to achieve your weight loss goals. You really have to take it one step at a time. As of this writing, I weigh 200 pounds. That is too big for an Asian man that measures 5’4”. I wasn’t that heavy when I was in college. In fact, I can wear customized t-shirts that are muscle fit back then.

No matter how much I blame free food here at the office or the sedentary lifestyle of being an online writer, I will always be the culprit of my unlikely flabby body. I have to admit, compromising for the glittery and oily food is heaven and drinking too much beer on weekends is paradise.

As part of my blog about weight loss, I am setting a goal for myself. I’ll be starting a war against fat by setting thresholds in everything that I eat and do. Let me share to you some of my drafted rules that I will do starting today.

Rule #1: No More Fast Food

I am a self confessed fan of Big Mac. In fact, I can finish one in five minutes and I can eat as much as I want within an hour. Usually, Big Mac is served with fries and soft drinks that are whooping in unsaturated fat and calories. According to Self Nutrition Data, this big bun contains 540 calories, 1040 mg of sodium and 29 grams of fat. These numbers transcend that required number that our body needs for the whole day. Can you imagine how hard it would be for you to burn that accumulated fat from munching on Big Mac? Well, you just have to do 60 minutes fast jogging/running, 120 minutes cycling, and 70 minutes boot camp class according to Fat Loss Authority site.

Rule #2: Walk

When I was in college, I used to take the train going to school. It would take me a 10 to 15 minute walk from the bus terminal before I reach the nearest train station. I also walk approximately one kilometer from the train station to our campus. I walk because I have no choice. My money is just enough and I cannot afford to take another ride going to the campus. Now that I am part of the labor force, I already have a choice. Instead of walking, I always take the cab despite the fact that the office is just a few meters away from the main thoroughfare. As of this writing, I would like to ditch the thought of taking the cab. I would walk going to the office everyday. It will not only give me a chance to move, it will also be a good way to save.

Rule #3: Share

Being generous should always be practiced. If you think that your food is too big for you, you can always share the other half to your friends. Instead of throwing it to trash, give it to others. You are not only being good about yourself, you are also trying to be good to your neighbor.

Rule #4: Goodbye Beer

I love drinking with my college and high school friends. So it would be a big sacrifice for me to surrender my love affair with alcohol weekly. I know that alcohol has weight reducing factor. However, beer is high in calorie and it is one of the leading causes why there are men with flabby beer belly.

Rule #5: Run

Going to the gym is a bit expensive. I know, I have tried to work out in the nearest hardcore gyms but all of those attempts led to failure. One reason why I fail is because these gyms don’t really have proper weight loss program. Aside from running, I would like to seal a deal with my running shoes and run for healthy lifestyle and abs (LOL).

Rule #6: Commit

At the age of 22, commitment is still a no-no for me. I wouldn’t want to be committed to anyone at this point. But there are times that you really have to be committed into something in order to walk the talk. I am currently enrolled in an MMA class (I stopped for over two months now because of change in schedule). Now, I have to make sure that I will attend my three hour MMA class, three times a week.

Rule #7: The Plan is a PLAN

I am not a really organized person. I am the type of person who gets everything done according to my random thoughts. For me, planning is a girl thing. But I came to realize that it is actually a manly thing to make a concrete plan for your future. Set a goal. List the things that you should do in order to make things possible. Get a notepad where you can draft your fitness plan. It would be great if you would document the changes that are taking place in your journey to healthy living.

Rule #8: Tutti Fruity and Very Veggies

I am a certified carnivore and I always want meat on my every meal. You might probably know that excess meat in your mouth will lead to obesity. They say that you are what you eat so now, I would like to declare my interest on fruits and veggies that are rich in fiber that is known for its flushing capability. It also contains countless nutrients that are good for the whole body.

Rule # 9: Knowledge is Your Weapon

Knowledge is power and it wouldn’t be good if you are starting on something that you are totally clueless about. That goodness, I have the internet to flood me with various information that I need while I taking the path of weight loss. There are also magazines that tackle men’s health that are fortified with information that a man can use in his battle against fat.

Rule #10: Break Free

We should always know when to take the risk. For someone like me, I never learned how to take the risk and I blame my fear of falling why I still don’t know how to bike (at the age of 22), I don’t know how to play basketball and I regained all the pounds I lost after four years of dormant, steady and action-less lifestyle. Now, I would like to try everything that I haven’t done when I was younger. I know it’s never too late to take risk.

Rule #11: Motivation

When I was in college, I actually used heartbreak and anger as my motivation to lose weight. I joined the judo club in our university and I spent over a year throwing judokas twice as my size. It felt good that you are able to release your anger by throwing your team mate with a seionage. However, judo wasn’t forever and anger don’t really last longer. I moved on as the judo club was abolished. I graduated from college and totally forgot how to do cartwheels and do an osoto gari. I can say that I don’t have any motivations as of this moment. I’m single and I only care for myself. But I came to think and ask, “am I really caring about myself?”. I eat big burgers everyday and drink almost weekly. Those deeds are deliciously torturing me from the inside and I can no longer continue. I guess, I have to break free my doing the cyclical things again and again. I don’t have to be fit because of what others will say or because I want to forget the girl who broke my heart. I have to do it for myself.

Rule #12: Get an “FB”

It’s not Facebook or an “F” buddy. It means fitness buddy. Yes, you should have someone to accompany you with your walk to fitness. Going to the gym alone will surely be boring on latter sessions. It would be great if you have someone to talk to while lifting weights or someone to watch over what you eat. You can have your girlfriend, boyfriend, spouse or your best friend as your fitness buddy.

I know how you feel! I'm short (only 5'3) so even if I gain 5lbs it shows! I gained 37lbs in about a year from having to quit my job and being stuck in bed for months with anxiety and horrible neck pain. I still have the neck pain but I can manage it a lot better now. My biggest problem with losing weight it that, despite the fact that I want to, my energy levels are so low right now. I find it hard to get up and going. I decided to set small goals for myself. Instead over doing said "pounds" in said "days", I am just going to set smaller goals of so many pounds in like, say 10 days, instead of saying 35lbs THIS MONTH! Like that's even possible. It's not for me! I've fasted 20 something days and only lost 10lbs. That's 20 something days of not eating! lol My body said "NO!, You will stay chubby and like it!" lol

Needless to say, I have 32 pounds to lose as of today. I have a goal set to lose 7 of them pounds in 10 days. Yea that sounds hard, but I'm giving up meat and sugar and exercising daily. I lost 5lbs in a week so whats 7 in 10 days!? ....

I'm just so lazy though. lol

Great hub, great tips! I found the easiest way to lose weight is eliminate your biggest problems (Fast food, alcohol, ect.) and let it roll. If I focus so much on losing weight I gain it! lol

You seem to have a good plan, hard part keeping it. Know that alcohol actually prevents, slows food from being digested though. Also from some-one landed with a renal diet imbargo; see blogs. Try 1. keep to no more than 2 litres of liquid per day, and find the drink/s that quenches thirst for the longest time make sure you like them but don't forget water, go for low sodium as salt =sodium and puts weight on, don't add at table as there's enough in food. I should blog this! -Avoid butter, marge as they increase choleterol; don;t trust brands that say they reduce it they may be just confusing tests. Finally in this tip, top up, try to not mix too many foods at a time as this makes an obstacle course for the digestion and slows down absorption/metabolism. -oh, avoid cheese as carciogenic!

days leaper- wow, great fitness tips. I do appreciate this. Keep 'em coming. I guess, i would really say goodbye to pizza, i love cheese but i guess i really have to sacrifice. :)

Not sure what MMA is being over pond: But if you're determined to find a certain some-one; I would also go back to Judo! What is it in one of those Rocky films? "Hey, boss. I want to fight" -yeh, get married kid!

What I'm saying is are you sure you got over the one who splattered your heart all over the place? Here's more exercise to help with the fitness exercises. At night say when alone, winding down write how you feel in a letter addressed to her. And before you go rushing off for that envelope -No, not necessarily to send (not initially, unless you decide she is the one; then what can i say that would stop you) but no, tell this letter/"her" how you felt before the relationship, in the relationship, when she left and since etc. Read again in a week, see what you want to add, and rate your feelings again as they are on the day. Do this for a few weeks and soon you will allow that precious thing we all have -our heart to heal again.

Some things I won't air publically but see my bloggs as I must be the most unlikiest person in the matter of love!

Keep up the good work!

Re. Pizza: Ah, yes. I remember now the melt in the mouth, the... It all comes back, also Bacon and melted cheshire sandwhich -mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Here's not so much a trick but a compromise, though it helps when you get a pang for it that you eat something else as your brain is saying food time and jumps to remembering how good that was.

Also, rule 3. is good for this, on a very special occassion only, find some-one who likes the same and you got it share, but, here's the trick only have a small one and don't on an empty stomach. Fill up -to a point-with dry toast or sandwhiches before your "sweet".

Now, youngling you have all you need to become Jedi Master! (sorry, couldn't resist: But do that too!)

Hi rob_allen,

A useful article on how to lose weight. It really made me rethink my fitness goals. I too am on the way to losing weight but my biggest enemy would be my laziness & busyness ("no time" rings alot of bells for me). My social life is just as hectic as my working life, i suppose thats why i am not committed when it comes to weight loss.

I would definitely refer to your article more often when it comes to losing weight :)
